TOOTHPOWDER: this is probably an Imperial formula. In parts (as kilos or pounds), used to make 10 pounds. The ingredients include: Shi Gao 1, Han Lian Cao 1, Bai Zhi 1, Xi Xin 1, Han Shui Shi 3, Fu Ling 1, Long Gu (calcined) 1 and Shi Yan 1. Grind all into a very fine powder.

Han Shui Shi – calcitum; Shi Yan – fossililized clam shells

How is Shi Yan different from Hai Ge Ke, other than the fossilization? And is it easy to find?

I ask because the Calclined (Duan) Hai Ge Ke can be powdered and used topically for burns.

I have ordered the Shi Yan from Nuherbs – $6 a pound – never used except for this forumula.

Grind into a fine powder, then what? External, internal both or none? Draft, pill, or poultice? Thanks!

Hi Richard! Good to clarify: place a small bit on your toothbrush and use as toothpaste substitute or adjunct. I spit it out when I used to use it, but maybe all those minerals will help improve sleep if swallowed….(ha). I’m guessing it was used as a mouthrise/wash orginally, but it works great with a toothbrush and no toothpaste.
