ParticipantOften these rashes that come up when one gets hot and should sweat are GZMHGBT. With the swelling and the progression to a more extreme febrile state it sounds more like GZEYBYT, but the wobbly feeling in the legs and pain of the joints and shins then sounds like a YBJZT. If there are only findings on the R side, then I’d try YBJZT. If there is anything on the L cun, also then maybe GZEYBYT+BZ. Another possible alternative for a more deficient pattern could be GZJHQT, but I think he needs a bit more forceful opening of the surface offered by the first two formulas, and this a very likely followup (or possibly where this could progress to in a few years if untreated and he develops a yellow sweat pattern and eventually arthritis).

GuestLaurie, thanks for your quick response. I can’t find dosages for GZMHGBT or GZEYBYT anywhere in my notes. Pulses were hard to gauge (newbie and with him being a kid I found it hard to determine placing of pulse etc), but they were quite similar–left and right (I think?), so I will definitely go more for GZEYBYT. My only other thing, and I know I could get shot for saying this, but not being able to use MH, is it going to be enough forceful oppening of the surface without it?

ParticipantThere are many different ways of calculating the doses for this group of formulas, and I won’t bore you with going into how we do it now. For GZEYBYT I always go gz6, bs6, sj9, dz9, zgc6, mh6, sg9. And I’m afraid to say, no, I don’t think it will be enough with MH. Otherwise ZZJ would have just used GZT. Others may have good replacements, but I don’t know any of can suggest. Maybe you can get some off a colleague?

ParticipantSince treating my own eczema was one of the reasons that got me studying Chinese medicine and as I had it as a baby, I’ll offer my favourite formula up as well. DGSNT could be a potential. I used to noticeablely sweat less than most of my Kung Fu students, but this last few months after regular dosing of DGSNT, I’ve definitely sweated a lot more than normal and my skin is better than normal. And it was one of the formulas that helped my eczema the most. Even though I have a big left guan, the hollowness of it can still point to DG potentially. Also reacting to heat and cold like you mentioned makes me think of Arnaud’s description of Jueyin, and hence DGSNT treats JYin.

GuestMy 7 year old boy came in today for a follow up after a few phone calls to the mum over the last few months. He is sweating! After never, EVER sweating before, he is sweating! Not profusely, but he is actually getting wet and clammy at soccer training and after wrestling his brother (who also suffers the same thing). The wobbly feelings in his legs are much less than they used to be, but he still gets quite sore in his joints and stiff if he sits for a period (anything more than 20 minutes). I have had him on GZEYBYT (but with XR instead of MH- due to inability to use it, not because I wanted to necessarily). Thanks for your help back in March Laurie Ayres; it was invaluable. I would never have ever thought I could help this little boy until I started this course.

ParticipantVery nice! Well done. Are you able to get a small amount of MH from someone else? After this maybe a GZJHQT follow up.

GuestLaurie Ayres, when would you move to GZJHQT? There is sweating, but not in what I would consider to be normal amounts yet. As a rookie, I am not sure what pulse change I would be looking for either…

ParticipantI’d want the sweating to be more complete (can you get some MH off someone else?). I can’t find the pulses in the thread, what were they again?

ParticipantPretty sure you can order a patent GZMHGBT in granules as a close option and then just add SG to it.
